Description
A platform that translates different computational languages and connects IoT devices into one centralized control panel. It enables data access to managers and employees to help them make informed decisions based on the information gathered from the interconnected devices. An interface network design working on four architecture layers: user interface, function block (FB), functional modules, and the hardware itself.
This communication interface eases Product Lifecycle Management for the involved parties, helping with productivity and giving employees control of manufacturing processes through mobile devices to meet ever-increasing consumer demand for transparency all across the supply chain. It serves for machines to communicate between themselves upon establishing their particular functions in the production chain, besides serving as a common ground for a new generation of robots that work collaboratively with humans (cobots).
Relevance
One of the consequences of adopting the Internet of Things by the manufacturing industry is that it would significantly generate more data from connected machines throughout manufacturing plants. Such a complex ecosystem of devices and processes requires a common ground for manufacturers, retailers, and other stakeholders to take control over the data generated by interconnected factories. Otherwise, it may produce more problems than it solves; the generation of such an immense amount of data may be difficult to handle by humans. AI-based software will be required to help manage and classify which information is handy and what is worth discarding.
