Open Know-Where standards that enable anyone, everywhere, to participate in production

What if we could build a sustainable system that was globally networked, but locally executed?

Description
The IoP (Internet Of Production) alliance is a global alliance of people and organizations who believe in a future of production defined by decentralized manufacturing and shared knowledge. We are building a foundation to enable this future, a world where people can quickly create and fabricate products made from a combination of locally sourced materials and global designs. It bring together people and organisations interested in creating this future of decentralized production, to define and document open-source tools that can then be implemented by anyone in the world.

Open Know-Where Emerging technology is a new open data model to help share data about manufacturing capabilities online. It is already transforming the way we produce goods, services, and experiences, allowing more people to join in the design and fabrication process.

Relevance
It is one of many initiatives that taps into the question of how the future of distribution, production and manufacturing could look like if we could reconfigure it from scratch? What if we could build a sustainable system that was globally networked, but locally executed? But with more standardised protocols, it might be a solution to current obstacles when it comes to the supply chain as well as tapping into the need of consumers to get products faster, but made from locally sourced materials and with less ecological impact.
