EIT Manufacturing and Jožef Stefan Institute Boost Green and Digital Manufacturing in Slovenia
On 16 December 2021, EIT Manufacturing Co-Location Center (CLC) East and the Jožef Stefan Institute invite to the online event “EIT Manufacturing – Making Innovation Happen in Slovenia” during the Robotics and Industry 4.0 Month as part of the official closure of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Vienna & Ljubljana, 14 December 2021. EIT Manufacturing, an innovation community supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, brings together European manufacturing actors in innovation ecosystems to foster innovation and the creation of globally competitive and sustainable manufacturing. In 2021, the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) based in Ljubljana joined the network of EIT Manufacturing as first partner coming from Slovenia. JSI is the leading Slovenian scientific research institute covering a wide range of basic and applied research. It implements the whole knowledge triangle, with the outstanding results in cooperation with domestic and European industry in the fields such as: robotics and automation, new materials, production and control technologies, artificial intelligence, plasma technologies, and surface technologies.
On 16 December, EIT Manufacturing CLC East, together with the Jožef Stefan Institute, will host the online event “EIT Manufacturing – Making Innovation Happen in Slovenia”. This event is dedicated to the presentation of the European Knowledge and Innovation Community EIT Manufacturing and its wide range of activities in the so-called knowledge triangle: Innovation, Education and Business Creation. The event programme focuses on Slovenia’s role in the EIT Manufacturing community and how the countries of EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) including Slovenia can become true game-changers for the European manufacturing industry. The Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) is the EIT Community’s outreach scheme to enable the transfer of good practices, experience and know-how emerging from the EIT Community’s activities, to widen participation in EIT activities across Europe and to ultimately boost the innovation capabilities of the RIS eligible countries by strengthening linkages among key innovation actors.
“The ambition of the Institute and its team is to find strategic synergies and complementarities with EIT Manufacturing, and to join forces to design and build an excellent ecosystem for the European manufacturing industry to flourish.”, says Ass. Prof. Igor Kovač, PhD, Department for Automatics, Biocybernetics and Robotics, Jožef Stefan Institute.
Connecting the European Manufacturing Industry
EIT Manufacturing brings together a broad network of industrial corporations, universities, and research institutions from all across Europe. During the event, the Jožef Stefan Institute presents itself and its role in the unique pan-European innovation ecosystem of EIT Manufacturing. The University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, acts as a local contact point, a so-called hub for EIT Manufacturing in Slovenia. As part of the event programme, representatives of the hub discuss the role of digital and green manufacturing in Slovenia and how EIT Manufacturing contributes to achieving these goals.
To complement the agenda, various initiatives and programmes of EIT Manufacturing to address the industrial transformation are presented under the three pillars: Education, Innovation and Business Creation. These are demonstrated through practical examples and supported projects together with guest speakers from across Europe, including the Technical University Vienna, as well as the start-ups ArcLub One (Slovenia) and Protostar Labs (Croatia).
“We are very proud to have the Jožef Stefan Institute in our partner network. With the event “EIT Manufacturing – Making Innovation Happen in Slovenia”, we want to expand our activities in Slovenia and engage more with the local manufacturing ecosystem to support innovation and digital transformation.”, says Johannes Hunschofsky, Managing Director of EIT Manufacturing CLC East.
