Top MIT scientists gather in Vienna to discuss the future of manufacturing at the MIT Europe Conference
For the first time this year, EIT Manufacturing, supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, is a proud co-organiser of the MIT Europe Conference 2025, the only Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) conference in Europe and the largest tech conference of a U.S. university on the continent. Taking place on 26-27 March 2025, at Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (WKÖ), Vienna, this landmark event will bring together MIT’s leading researchers, European industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to explore the future of manufacturing.
Under the theme “The Future of Manufacturing,” the conference will feature nine distinguished researchers from MIT, who will share their latest findings, technologies and solutions in the realm of manufacturing. From AI-driven automation to biotechnology’s role in manufacturing, attendees will gain exclusive insights into how cutting-edge advancements are transforming industries worldwide.
“Co-organising the MIT Europe Conference is a unique opportunity for EIT Manufacturing to strengthen Europe’s position as a leader in industrial innovation. It serves as a platform that connects MIT’s expertise with European industry to collaborate and create impact. Austrian and European companies can engage directly with top U.S. researchers, explore future trends, and discuss how these innovations will transform their operations to enhance competitiveness,” says Caroline Viarouge, CEO, EIT Manufacturing
A must-attend event for the manufacturing industry
The event is expected to attract 400+ leading innovators, industry experts and companies interested in learning about the latest developments and trends in manufacturing, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, biotechnology and data-driven manufacturing.
How do new technologies impact products and business models? Which trends will shape the future of companies? The following renowned MIT researchers will provide answers to these and other questions:
- Ben Armstrong (MIT Industrial Performance Center) – AI’s impact on employment and how employees, companies and regions can adapt to technological change
- Bruce Lawler (MIT Machine Intelligence for Manufacturing and Operations) – Practical applications of AI and analytics for competitive advantage
- J. Christopher Love (MIT Chemical Engineering) – Biotechnology’s role in revolutionising food, energy and healthcare
- Hiram Samel (MIT Sloan School of Management) – How U.S. companies successfully scale new production technologies
- John Liu (MIT Learning Engineering and Practice Group) – Educating manufacturing technologists to be future shop floor leaders
- Kaitlyn Becker (MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering) – Advancing soft robotics for deep-sea exploration
- Phil Budden (MIT Sloan School of Management) – Corporate innovation and engagement with external ecosystems
- Suzanne Berger (MIT Political Science) – Redefining industrial production through interdisciplinary collaboration
The MIT Europe Conference, held biennially, is taking place for the tenth time at WKÖ in Vienna. In addition to in-person participation, technology enthusiasts from around the world can sign up for the free live stream moderated by scientists.
This event is made possible by the efforts of AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA at WKÖ, part of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, with support from the “go-international” initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Labor.

Background information
-
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem bringing together over 2400 partners from top business, research and education organisations across Europe in 60 innovation hubs. The EIT is an EU body and an integral part of Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Through dynamic pan-European partnerships, called Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) the EIT Community offers a wide range of innovation and entrepreneurship activities, strengthening Europe’s ability to innovate and powering solutions to pressing global challenges while nurturing entrepreneurial talent to create sustainable growth and skilled jobs in Europe.
EIT Manufacturing is one of the nine innovation communities supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. EIT Manufacturing’s main goal is to bring European stakeholders focused on manufacturing together in innovation ecosystems that add unique value to European products, processes and services and inspire the creation of globally competitive and sustainable manufacturing. EIT Manufacturing brings together more than 200 partners (universities, research institutes and companies).
