The BRIGHTskills and InnoMatSyn projects are now underway
The start of 2025 brings exciting developments for EIT Manufacturing, as the West region embarks on two new projects set to transform key European industries. BRIGHTskills and InnoMatSyn will drive innovation, foster growth and strengthen Europe’s workforce in the healthcare and advanced materials sectors.
Empowering the future of European healthcare
Launched in January, BRIGHTskills is an initiative with a €5 million budget and a four-year timeline. Its mission is to equip Europe’s healthcare sector with the skills needed to adapt to rapidly changing world, including technological advancements, societal shifts, environmental challenges and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bringing together 25 partners across 11 countries, BRIGHTskills is a collaborative effort involving higher education institutions, SMEs, healthcare organisations and labor market experts. EIT Manufacturing will actively be supporting the development of a critical mass for upskilling and reskilling efforts in the health industry by transforming regional, national and European ecosystems. The project will develop a skills strategy and provide training to healthcare staff on urgent needs and emerging roles.
Support is directed toward supporting the development and validation of an EU Health Industry Skills Strategy and designing, developing and validating the training programmes aimed at upskilling and reskilling the health industry workforce in green and digital skills.
A key strength of BRIGHTskills is its collaborative approach. With a diverse consortium and alignment with initiatives like the Pact for Skills, the project ensures that its solutions are innovative, inclusive and widely recognised within Europe.
At EIT Manufacturing, we are proud to be part of BRIGHTskills and InnoMatSyn, two projects that align perfectly with our strategic objectives of fostering skills, resilience and sustainability in European industry. BRIGHTskills will play a crucial role in preparing the healthcare workforce for digital and green transitions, while InnoMatSyn will strengthen Europe’s position in advanced materials innovation. These initiatives exemplify our mission to connect key industry players, drive competitiveness and support Europe’s leadership in manufacturing innovation, contributing to a more sustainable, human-centric and resilient industry.

Driving innovation in advanced materials
Set to begin in March 2025, InnoMatSyn is a project focused on coordinating European, national and regional initiatives to build a strong advanced materials ecosystem, including two-dimensional materials, to speed up their development and scaling.
With a €4 million budget and a 36-month duration, the project unites 14 partners across Europe, including EIT Manufacturing West, which will play a central role in driving this initiative by:
- Supporting the development of a pan-European advanced materials innovation ecosystem
- Supporting EU, national and regional initiatives with technology leakage risk assessment strategies
As 2025 unfolds, EIT Manufacturing is taking bold steps to shape the future of European industry. These projects represent a strategic push toward a more innovative, skilled and competitive Europe.
