On 9 -10 January 2025 EIT Manufacturing South East welcomed a group of students from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), USA as part of the “EIT Manufacturing GenZ Innovators: From Classroom to Industry” program. This two-day experience offered the students a first look into the innovative world of European manufacturing and its cutting-edge technologies. The event was organised by EIT Manufacturing South East in collaboration with LMS, Teaching Factory Competence Center and CASP; all Core partners of South East.
Day 1: Exploring EIT Manufacturing South East Office
The visit began at the EIT Manufacturing South East office in Athens, where students were introduced to the mission, vision and impact of EIT Manufacturing and the South Office in the 9 countries it covers. They gained insight into the organization’s structure, its rich education programs such as Master and Doctoral’s school, and the main role it plays in driving innovation across the manufacturing sector.
The presentation was engaging and interactive. It was specific and so relevant to the problems we’re seeing today globally, and you know, part of our position as instructors at a university is to prepare students for challenges that might not exist yet and to solve for those problems so this was a really impactful presentation to see.
Sigh Sital, Professor at Ole Mis
One of the day’s highlights was an exclusive demonstration of Virtual Reality (VR) training. In collaboration with CASP, the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS) and TF-CC (Teaching Factory Competence Center), students experienced how VR can revolutionize training methodologies, making them more immersive and effective.
Day 2: Visit to Emphasis DigiWorld
On the second day, the students visited Emphasis DigiWorld, a core member of EIT Manufacturing South East. This visit offered an exciting opportunity to reach deeper into Emphasis’s groundbreaking contributions to innovation in the manufacturing sector. The students learned about the company’s latest projects and the transformative technologies on innovation.
I want to especially thank you guys for hosting us. It’s great that we covered several different types of businesses and it was interactive, including allowing the students to earn a certificate, which is always great for not only their learning but also their resume and their LinkedIn profiles etc. Being able to do the virtual reality hands on was a lot of fun. I think the students really enjoyed that. I like the fact that they were engaged and they were able to ask questions, feel comfortable to ask the questions and your hospitality was amazing.
