The Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technologies have received considerable interest from the manufacturing industry in recent years. However, they have not yet caused the expected industrial revolution due to the limitations they present. One of the limitations is the lack of monitoring and control systems for these technologies. The aim of this activity is to bring a new solution for the monitoring and control systems for DED technologies, based on Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) and Laser Metal Deposition (LMD), for assuring high quality manufacturing of large parts. This process-based monitoring and control system will be implemented on two industrial machines dedicated to Additive Manufacturing, which are already available in the market but which lack this type of systems that ensure a defect free material addition. The integration of this system will increase the reliability and reproducibility of these technologies, which will be the key for their success in the industry.
